Mavillette

Mavillette

The name may derive from the French Mauviette, or ‘field lark’, or the French words ‘ma villette’, my little village.

Another story tells the tale of a General Mavillette who died at sea and was buried on the beach named after him.

Founded by Felix and Marie (Doucet) Deveau around 1820.

Mavillette Beach Provincial Park offers a 2.5 km long stretch of sand that beckons sunbathers and swimmers to its shore. Boardwalks crossing grass-covered dunes provides access to the beach where you can view the Cape St. Mary's fishing wharf and lighthouse. A 132 ha (325 ac) saltwater marsh behind the beach is popular with birdwatchers since many different species can be spotted. Overlooking the beach, you will find a restaurant, motel with cottages and a new RV park.
