This small inland community is an offshoot of the Meteghan colony, settled in the 1780s.

Named for the biblical Benjamin, whose mother called him Bénoni.

Hidden gem: St. Bénoni waterfalls

Although this is a more residential area, it has a hidden gem photo opportunity to offer. Directions:

There are numerous ways to reach St. Bénoni, the most common being a turn off Highway 1: right if travelling toward Digby and a left if travelling toward Yarmouth, onto Placide Comeau Road (commonly known as the “High School Road”), and then another right turn onto a minor side road and watch for the small “St-Bénoni” sign. Once on this small side road, keep straight and you will reach a bridge from where you can see marvellous waterfalls from both sides. The best way to view the falls is to pull over on the side of the road and walk back to the bridge and enjoy the view of the Meteghan River making its way to St. Mary’s Bay.
