Saulnierville Station

Saulnierville Station

This village is one of the many that grew around the train stations. The track itself has been repurposed as a walking and ATV trail called Rails-to-Trails.

Many talented musicians are from this area, including Kenneth Saulnier and Johnny Comeau. This location was made famous by a song written by Clare resident Denis Comeau and sung by Acadian band 1755. The song lyrics “M’en allant par Saulnierville Station, en vieux station wagon, cent milles à l’heure pour sauter l’track.”, loosely mean: ”On my way to Saulnierville Station, in an old station wagon, at a hundred miles an hour to jump the track.”

Hidden gem:

While driving by where the track once crossed the road, a large commemorative sign features the lyrics of the chorus with a graphic of the band who sings the Saulnierville Station song in an old station wagon jumping the track. If you decide to venture in the direction of Saulnierville Station, please do not attempt to jump the track at 100 miles per hour since it could be very hazardous to your health as the character in the song discovered when he tried to accomplish this feat while going in the wrong direction!

“Pour sauter l’track à Saulnierville Station en vieux station wagon, à cent milles à l’heure, il faut qu’on aille par la côte, point par le bois, par la côte!” To jump the track in Saulnierville Station, in an old station wagon, at a hundred miles an hour, you have to go toward the shore, not toward the woods, toward the shore!

Bonus: If you drive through Saulnierville Station and keep straight, the road will lead directly to the village of Bangor where you can visit a 19th century water powered turbine sawmill that has been turned into a museum.
