Meteghan River

Meteghan River

The village was founded by Justinien Comeau in the early 1800s. Commonly referred to by the locals as La Butte for the small hill on the east side of the bridge.

The Meteghan River flowing through the community is geographically located in the heart of Clare.

Located along the main highway and the Meteghan River, the impressive A.F. Thériault & Sons shipyard and drydock is one of the largest private boatyards in Atlantic Canada, with buildings dating from World War I. Since 1938, the shipyard has built over 1000 vessels of up to 150 feet (45 meters) for a wide variety of uses and clients, including fishing boats, passenger vessels, commercial workboats, fire/patrol/pilot boats, as well as luxury pleasure yachts.
