In French, “une concession” is a grant of land. In 1799 a concession was granted to Major François Comeau and associates, in the middle of what was then Clare.
Originally referred to as Les Concessions, the name stuck. Completed in 1902, the Notre-Dame-du- Mont-Carmel Church is the only church in Clare that has no pillars.
