Communities of Clare

The Municipality of the District of Clare has a population of 8018 persons (2016 census) residing in a large coastal and inland area of 852 km2. The municipality consists of 48 communities that are identified in the landscape by colourful blue village signs.

Believed to have been named around 1780 after Michel Doucet, one of the original Acadian settlers, along with François Deveau and Jean-Baptiste Thibault.

This inland village formerly had a train station established around 1890. Located off Exit 29 on Highway 101.

Located inland approximately six kilometres from Belliveau Cove, Margo was once a bustling forestry community from approximately 1850 to 1900.

Named for the Township which was named for an early settler. The community was founded in the 1880s when the Western County Railway came through the area.
